چکیده

Kinetics of [24-14C] cholic acid and [24-14C] chenodeoxycholic acid and biliary lipid composition were determined in patients with chronic alcoholic pancreatitis with (n = 8) and without (n = 8) steatorrhoea. Pool sizes, syntheses and fractional catabolic rates of the two bile acids were not significantly different from corresponding values in healthy controls. Biliary lipid composition was normal in patients without steatorrhoea. Patients with steatorrhoea, on the other hand, had lower cholesterol saturation of bile than corresponding controls. This is probably because of malabsorption of cholesterol.

Sclerosing cholangitis with hepatic microvesicular

The association between asymptomatic primary sclerosing cholangitis and exocrine pancreatic disease was underlined by the findings in a patient with cystic fibrosis and in another with chronic pancreatitis. In each case hepatocytes showed extensive microvesicular steatosis and studies of drug metabolism suggested hepatic enzyme induction: biliary or serum analysis, or both, disclosed raised con...

Scavengers of Oxygen-Derived Free Radicals: A New Approach to the Problem of Pancreatitis-Induced Abdominal Pain

The abdominal pain produced by chronic pancreatitis may be very difficult to treat. Oxygen-derived free radicals, such as the superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical, are cytotoxic and promote tissue damage1'2. These radicals injure cellular membranes and release the intracellular components, e.g. lysosomal enzymes, that can lead to further tissue damage3'4. In addition, the radicals cause degrad...

Effect of Diclofenac Suppository on Treatment of Acute Biliary Pancreatitis

Background and Aim: Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory pancreatic disease that is associated with low or no fibrosis of the pancreas. Standard non-surgical treatment in all patients involves correcting water and electrolyte disorders, pain relief and avoiding pancreatic secretion. Given that pancreatitis is an inflammatory process, and NSAIDs have been shown to modulate inflammatory processe...

Jejunal monosaccharide, water, and electrolyte transport in patients with chronic pancreatitis.

Jejunal perfusion studies were performed to assess water, electrolyte, d-xylose, and d-glucose transport in 16 patients with chronic calcific pancreatitis (eight with and eight without steatorrhoea) and in 10 control subjects. The patients with steatorrhoea demonstrated significantly less xylose, water, and electrolyte absorption than patients without steatorrhoea and control subjects, when an ...
